İdrak, icra
Interactive sculpture, 2020
İdrak, icra (grasp, execute) is an interactive sculpture that consists of a mechanical system connected to a hand with synthetic leather skin and an eye merged to its palm. As the handle is turned, the fingers of the hand close and open; veiling and revealing the eye, simulating a blinking motion.
Tenome, a Japanese mythical monster, has one eye on each palm and none on its face. The merging of the perception and execution in a single extension severely disrupts the function of each. They both lose the possibility of realizing their nature. Hamsa, the middle eastern palm-shaped amulet with an eye in the middle, is a sign of protection. Tenome and Hamsa, the monster and the protector, are equals in their signifiers. The eye contains both the fear and the resolve of perception, and so is the hand with execution. The monster and the protector becomes one.
